Not your typical oceanic
I had heard many mixed reviews on this scent, especially from people bemoaning the fact that they felt it wasn't truly an 'oceanic' scent as it has been marketed. After laying my hands on a few samples, I can't say that I agree at all. No, this isn't the expected 'true-blue', old and faithful linear oceanic scent, if anything, it is a truly modern and sophisticated take, more well-balanced and well-composed than it's predecessors. It also has a distinct opening and dry down which sees the fragrance develop across the day. The pink pepper brings a spiciness on opening and there is a truly salty, creamy quality, reminiscent of the ocean but this is well melded with musk, suede, vetiver and patchouli. While the oceanic saltiness is there alongside a 'clean' scent, the dry down also brings earthy, woody tones that lend this more to 'date night handsome' as opposed to 'casual daytime clean'. I passed a sample on to a family member who isn't usually into fragrance at all but he has mentioned this so many times over now that I have already purchased this as his Christmas gift. I have no doubt he'll be thrilled.
