Use the doe-foot applicator and apply directly onto lips. Allow the first coat to dry for five minutes before applying a second coat for intensified coverage.

This colour is a lot brighter in real life compared to the more muted but deep colour in the photos, but is still nice. I put some on my lips using the applicator for the first time and was horrified at how dry my lips looked. It also dries quickly so it appeared patchy. Given the very bright colour, on the second try, I put on just a dot and spread it with my fingertip. It was much better, although still on the dry side. Third time lucky, I applied a plain lip balm beforehand, still just a dot and spread it out. That's the way to go. It's not perfect so only 4 stars, but it stays on pretty well and is a bargain compared to many similar ones out there. I'm going to get a more natural coloured one for every day wear, and probably follow the recommendation to use a lip scrub too.
